Anthony doesn’t think a person needs a roomful of machines to get into and stay in shape. “I believe in using the body as a whole,” he says. “When we were kids at play, we’d run and jump, climb, and throw things and push and pull. I believe in all those types of movements for adults.”

Instead of treadmills and complicated machinery, he advocates “a life-long lifestyle of movement and activity that brings fun back into fitness,” he says. “Exercise doesn’t have to be a serious thing that people dread.”

Anthony has been a personal trainer, speaker and workshop leader since 2004, focusing on dynamic movement. “I call it Natural Movement, something that machines can’t come close to producing,” he says. “The only equipment I use is portable, like medicine balls and elastic tubing, kettlebells and dumbbells.”

He works with individuals or small groups of up to 15 individuals, meeting in his Norwalk, Ct., studio, local school gymnasiums, outdoor tracks and parks and beaches. He also writes monthly fitness articles for The Hour in Norwalk, produces a monthly fitness video for the newspaper’s Web site (www.thehour.com), and creates a weekly inspiration video and fitness tip for his e-mail list.

Anthony began his successful personal training career after an “ah-ha moment” about 10 years after he graduated from San Diego State University in California in 1993 with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice. “I did a little bit of everything – the ski thing, working on yachts, improvisation comedy and educational theater,” he says. “I have a passion for fitness and for helping people, so I thought I’d put them together and make a career as a personal trainer.”

His passion is more than just helping people become physically fit, though. “I want to find ways to help as many people as I can live healthy, productive lives, to guide them into making small, incremental changes that will become big changes in the long run.” To help in achieving that, “I’m doing more motivational and educational speaking, and using videos to reach as many people as possible and get them actively involved in leading a more balanced life,” he says.

Anthony is an American Fitness Professionals and Associates certified personal trainer, a Level 1 Certified Natural Trainer, an International Youth Conditioning Association Level 1 certified trainer, and is certified by the American Red Cross in CPR and the use of portable defibrillators.

He, his wife, Maura and her son, Ralph live in Ridgefield, Ct.

I believe fitness is one of the most powerful tools to incorporate in your life in order to find balance in your mind and body. Fitness like Love, is not a noun, it’s an act like a verb. Fitness is a process that can teach all of us a great deal of things as well as principles like;

  • Work Ethic
  • Commitment
  • Delayed Gratification
A critical step in creating more balance in your health and well-being and turning your vision into a reality is; understanding the importance of change; first in your mind then in your day to day actions. How you think, influences how you act, which ultimately determines what you get as a result.

There are no quick fixes, no magic pills; fitness is a process, just like anything in life worth its “salt”, takes daily concerted effort or P.R.I.D.E., Personal Responsibility in Daily Efforts. Life is a journey; too many times we get caught up on the end result, and don’t enjoy or are not present in the moment of the process. The better we feel about ourselves, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually will have positive ripple effect on our lives. Forgo any or all “something-for-nothing” approaches that “promise” to improve your current state with little to no effort on your part.
